Custom Cane Bolt Latch for a Greenhouse

For this project, we designed and fabricated a custom cane bolt latch to secure the door of the client’s greenhouse. Off-the-shelf hardware didn’t fit the greenhouse’s lightweight frame or unique door design, so the client needed a durable, weather-resistant solution that would hold the door open or closed even in strong winds.

We built the latch using solid steel rod and a heavy-duty guide bracket, shaped and welded to provide smooth operation and long-term reliability. The cane bolt was sized specifically for the greenhouse door height and ground clearance, with a reinforced stop to keep it from over-traveling. A custom mounting plate allowed the latch to bolt cleanly onto the aluminum or wood framing without causing warping or damage.

After fabrication, all components were cleaned, smoothed, and coated with a rust-resistant finish to withstand moisture, humidity, and outdoor conditions common in greenhouse environments. The finished latch offers a strong, easy-to-use locking system that keeps the door secure while maintaining a clean, functional look.
